Over a dozen years the Starbucks in Jackson Heights, Queens became a regular morning meeting place for a group of locals. One of our dear friends from that time, Tom Hall, a retired priest, was an avid needleworker. He had a habit of making and giving handmade afghan blankets to all kinds of people, and in so doing, touched people all over the world. His example inspired me to learn to knit. Since then, knitting has become a beloved constant in my life. Thank you, Tom. I particularly love to knit bears and other animal creatures as gifts to friends with children (and for the friends themselves).
Question: Are you still meeting? Sadly, no. The CVD policies destroyed the group as normal face-to-face interactions were banned in NYC.

This is a simple garter stitch knit, not particularly difficult. Having said that, it is one of the most popular items in the category of knitted animals on Ravelry.

While knitting is my main love in terms of crafting, this winter I decided a new challenge was needed. Here’s a first effort at a counted canvas sampler. It’s based on the Twinkling Gems pattern by DebBee’s Designs. The colors, arrangement, and border have all been customized by me.
